GarageBand 10.4.1: Complete list of new instruments for BigSur

Hello! I recently upgraded my iMac to BigSur and wanted to dive right into GarageBand's new features. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a list anywhere of exactly what is new. I sent Patrick an email over at The GarageBand Guide to see if he had one. As soon as I hit send, it dawned on me that I could just stop being lazy and open up my backup copy of 10.3.5 and compare the two myself. But as of right now, both copies do not run simultaneously on my iMac. They will run one at a time however, so I took screenshots of the old set of sounds from 10.3.5, compared them to the new ones in 10.4.1, and jotted them all down. I figured I'd share them with everyone here too. For everything else GarageBand related, I'm happy to offer one-on-one online lessons if you click on the lessons tab above. Patrick's site linked above also has an insane amount of very well-produced video tutorials and PDFs for download.


Please keep in mind that this is just a list of the new software instruments. I'm not interested in taking the time to compare and list all 1,800 new loops. ;)


The following folders contain the same sounds as 10.3.5 with nothing additional added:

Drum Kit, Bass, Guitar, Orchestral (all subfolders), Percussion, Synthesizer (strings), Vintage Mellotron, World, and Arpeggiator.


The following lists all of the newly added sounds as of 10.4.1 compared to 10.3.5, the last update for Catalina. I did not notice any sounds that are absent in 10.4.1. This does not apply to iPad or iPhone versions, only Big Sur 11.0.1.
